Tattooing has been practiced across the globe since at least Neolithic times, as evidenced by mummified preserved skin, ancient art and the archaeological record. Both ancient art and archaeological finds of possible tattoo tools suggest tattooing was practiced by the Upper Paleolithic period in Europe. Indigenous peoples of North America have a long history of tattooing. Tattooing was not a simple marking on the skin: it was a process that highlighted cultural connections to Indigenous ways of knowing and viewing the world, as well as connections to family, society, and place. Those who paint themselves permanently do so with extreme pain, using, for this purpose, needles, sharp awls, or piercing thorns, with which they perforate, or have others perforate, the skin. Thus they form on the face, the neck, the breast, or some other part of the body, some animal or monster, for instance, an Eagle, a Serpent, a Dragon, or any other figure which they prefer; and then, tracing over the fresh and bloody design some powdered charcoal, or other black coloring matter, which becomes mixed with the blood and penetrates within these perforations, they imprint indelibly upon the living skin the designed figures.
Today they use electric machines with one to several needles that pierce the skin at high speeds and can be very painful to some people to the point of them passing out or becoming sick. The Tattoo can also become infected and or an eyesore for the person getting the tattoo. If either of these occur, it can be very difficult to remove the tattoo or fix the tattoo.
Temporary Airbrush Tattoos can alleviate the above mentioned issues and is a great way to determine if one even wants to pursue getting a permanent tattoo. Kids and young adults seem to be fascinated by tattoos in today society but unless they are 18 years of age, they cannot get a traditional tattoo. Temporary tattoos are a way that anyone, including young children, can get a tattoo even just for a short time. Some tattoos artists even have the ability to do complete sleeves and back mural tattoos that look very realistic. Temporary Airbrush Tattoos have even been seen in movies and on stage.
For us to apply a tattoo we first clean the skin where the tattoo is going to be applied with a little bit of rubbing alcohol in order to make sure the ink will stick to the skin. Then we apply a stencil to the area of application on the skin. All our tattoos are gently applied with light air pressure from a handheld airbrush. Our tattoos can last for up to 10 days depending on the skin type. If you have dry skin then the tattoo will last longer than oily skin. The tattoo inks we use also have a gentle candy apple smell and can be easily removed by either scrubbing them with a wash rag or with any lotion that contains rubbing alcohol.
